Project Description

Cotommatae 1810

Just 200 meters from Hydra’s famed amphitheatrically port, the Cotommatae 1810 stands proud in a quiet district with its lofty stone walls protecting the privacy of the house and its surrounding courtyards, gardens and verandas. The walls have been witness to slices of Greece’s rich maritime history when Hydra’s sea-faring community played a pivotal role in Greece’s independence. With 5 suites and two double bed rooms of which three suites can sleep up to 4 persons, furnished to reflect the authentic and unique character of Hydra, the Cotommatae 1810 can be booked individually or wholly for a large family or a group of friends.

It took four years of very careful restoration and hard work to have the building renovated and adapts itself to its new functioning. It became a characteristic “boutique Hotel” which offers comfort, relaxation and pleasure. Natural materials were used, the unique architectural elements were maintained, like the works of art of the ceilings of both the Hall and the Drawing room, the wooden walls and partitions, the roofs and floors made of chestnut. Special care was given to the details and especially to a rich home made breakfast.

Hydra is one of the most secluded and picturesque islands of Greece, a preferred retreat both cosmopolitan and tranquil. Located in the Saronic Gulf, just a 2-hour boat trip from Athens, and just across the Peloponeese, the island enjoys guests all year round. A pedestrian island, beautiful in spring time and with wonderful beaches to explore during the summer, rich in history and with plenty cultural events annually, the Hydra island is a “must see’ when in Greece.

Great historic hotel. Very accommodating staff and the breakfast on the patio was exceptional.
